Inspiration
Before I start illustrating, I always start with a bit of reading. I want to understand the world, the characters, and the circumstances that they are in before I start doing any sketches.
My process starts with choosing a passage from the book that strikes an image in my head.
For The Dispossessed, the passage that really struck me was this from Chapter 4.
“He dreamed vividly, and the dreams were part of his work. He saw time turn back upon itself, a river flowing upward to the spring. He held the contemporaneity of two moments in his left and right hands; as he moved them apart he smiled to see the moments separate like dividing soap bubbles.”
